Tiki explaination?
Tavo or anyone else. Could you please educate me (and maybe some others) why mugs, t-shirts and other stuff made to look like Polynesian stone carvings has an appeal. I am not aware of this kind of sub-culture in Europe (someone will probably correct me here )
Have a good weekend.

Re: Tiki explaination?
It has a lot to do with World War II's Pacific front and our addition of the state of Hawaii. The sailors brought back the Tiki mugs, drinks, etc. Frank Sinatra was singing songs about flying away to exotic locales. The Tiki Bar became part of the surfing / surf rock culture that swept over the US in the 40s and 50s. So on and so on.
Oh - and it looks damn cool.

Thanks for the enlightenment, not always easy to keep up with all the sub cultures that are connected to music.

Glad we could have helped! Today, Tiki Culture has a smaller but very loyal following here in the States. That said, if you get an old sailor over the house and by the Tiki Bar, the stories begin to flow. They love a bit of it.
